Linaje e Inspiración

Maharishi Mahesh Yog

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (12 January 1918[6] – 5 February 2008) was born Mahesh Prasad Varma and became known as Maharishi (meaning "great seer")[1][7] and Yogi as an adult.[8][9] He developed the Transcendental Meditation technique and was the leader and guru of a worldwide organization that has been characterized in multiple ways including as a new religious movement and as non-religious.[10][11][12]

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi became a disciple and assistant of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya (spiritual leader) of Jyotirmath in the Indian Himalayas. The Maharishi credits Brahmananda Saraswati with inspiring his teachings. In 1955, the Maharishi began to introduce his Transcendental Deep Meditation (later renamed Transcendental Meditation) to India and the world. His first global tour began in 1958.[13] His devotees referred to him as His Holiness,[14] and because he often laughed in TV interviews he was sometimes referred to as the "giggling guru."[15][16][17]

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Maharishi achieved fame as the guru to the Beatles, the Beach Boys and other celebrities. In the late 1970s, he started the TM-Sidhi programme that claimed to offer practitioners the ability to levitateand to create world peace.[18] The Maharishi's Natural Law Party was founded in 1992, and ran campaigns in dozens of countries. He moved to near Vlodrop, the Netherlands, in the same year.[19] In 2000, he created the Global Country of World Peace, a non-profit organization, and appointed its leaders. In 2008, the Maharishi announced his retirement from all administrative activities and went into silence until his death three weeks later.[20]

The Maharishi is reported to have trained more than 40,000 TM teachers, taught the Transcendental Meditation technique to "more than five million people" and founded thousands of teaching centres and hundreds of colleges, universities and schools,[21][22][23] while TM websites report tens of thousands learned the TM-Sidhi programme. His initiatives include schools and universities with campuses in several countries including India, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.[24] The Maharishi, his family and close associates created charitable organisations and for-profit businesses including health clinics, mail-order health supplements and organic farms. The reported value of the Maharishi's organization has ranged from the millions to billions of U.S. dollars and in 2008, the organization placed the value of their United States assets at about $300 million

Dr. Deepak Chopra

Deepak Chopra (born October 22, 1946) is an Indian-born American author, public speaker, alternative medicine advocate, and a prominent figure in the New Age movement.[3][4][5] Through his books and videos, he has become one of the best-known and wealthiest figures in alternative medicine.[6]

Chopra studied medicine in India before emigrating to the United States in 1970 where he completed residencies in internal medicine and endocrinology. As a licensed physician, he became chief of staff at the New England Memorial Hospital (NEMH) in 1980.[7] He met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1985 and became involved with the Transcendental Meditation movement (TM). He resigned his position at NEMH shortly thereafter to establish the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center.[8] Chopra gained a following in 1993 after his interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show regarding his books.[9] He then left the TM movement to become the executive director of Sharp HealthCare's Center for Mind-Body Medicine and in 1996 he co-founded the Chopra Center for Wellbeing.[7][8][10]

Chopra believes that a person may attain "perfect health", a condition "that is free from disease, that never feels pain", and "that cannot age or die".[11][12] Seeing the human body as being undergirded by a "quantum mechanical body" composed not of matter but of energy and information, he believes that "human aging is fluid and changeable; it can speed up, slow down, stop for a time, and even reverse itself," as determined by one's state of mind.[11][13] He claims that his practices can also treat chronic disease

Dr. David Simon

El Doctor David Simon fue maestro de nuestra Directora Sonnia Valverde y ademas su gran inspiración para su carrera de Ayurveda.

Dr. David Simon, M.D., who co-founded the Chopra Center of Well-Being with Deepak Chopra in 1996.

“David has been my friend, partner, teacher, trusted colleague, and younger brother for more than 20 years. He has touched my heart, influenced the way I think, and expanded my spirit," Chopra said in a press release. "David approached life from a place of pure potentiality and unlimited possibilities. His wisdom, courage, and love will continue to inspire all of us for decades to come.”

Before he died  in June 2010. In a press release issued at the time, he said:

“I feel an enormous amount of love for my family, friends, and this fragile, beautiful planet. If I could convey a single message, it would be to tell the people in your life that you love them right now. I’ve shared the final days with patients moving through their transition, and time and again they say to me, “It’s all about love. It’s always been about love. Love is the only thing that’s real.”

Simon, a board-certified neurologist, began exploring traditional healing systems early on in his medical career, searching for alternatives to "a medical paradigm that the viewed the body as a physical machine and generally rejected the connection between the mind and the body," according to the Center.

A longtime meditation practitioner, he was drawn to the ancient wisdom traditions of India, Tibet, and China, encouraged by the way in which they combined the concept of body, mind, and spirit into a definition of a health as something more than just the absence of disease, but as a state of well-being and vitality.

In his book The Wisdom of Healing, Simon wrote about meeting a vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor), who greatly influenced his path.

“More than an expert on health, he seemed to be a living representative of a healthy person, balanced in body, mind, and spirit," he wrote. "In this man, I saw the possibility that a physician could be more than a technical master of pathology—a doctor could guide his patients to health through his actions, words, and being.”

Simon went on to become recognized as an expert in Ayurveda and its sister science, yoga, which, along with meditation, formed the basis for the health program at the Chopra Center. As a pioneer in mind-body medicine, Simon received one of the first National Institutes of Health grants to study the integration of mind-body approaches into health care; trained thousands of physicians, nurses, and health-care providers; and brought integrated mind-body medical programs to medical institutions, health centers, educational institutions, and health resorts throughout the world.

Simon also wrote many popular books on health and well-being, including the best-selling guide Free to Love, Free to Heal: Heal Your Body by Healing Your Emotions.

The Chopra Center has created a lovely tribute video Remembering David Simon and established a webpage for tributes and wishes from friends and the public.

Dr. David Frawley (Vamadeva Sastri)

Dr. Frawley fue en varias ocaciones maestro de nuestra Directora mientras cursaba su carrera en el el Centro Chopra.

Dr. David Frawley (Sanskrit title: वामदेव शास्त्री, IAST: Vāmadeva Śāstrī), born 1950, is an American Hindu teacher (acharya) and author, who has written more than thirty books on topics such as the Vedas, Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma), Yoga, Ayurveda and Vedic astrology, published both in India and in the United States. He is the founder and director of the American Institute of Vedic Studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico which offers educational information on Yoga philosophy, Ayurveda, and Vedic astrology.

His wife Yogini Shambhavi Chopra joins him in his teachings.[1] He is a frequent contributor to the magazine Hinduism Today.[2] He is associated with a number of Vedic and yogic organizations in several countries. He is a Vedic teacher (Sanskrit: Vedacharya), Vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor), and a Jyotishi (Vedic astrologer). Frawley has been repeatedly recognized as a highly esteemed spiritual teacher, especially of Yoga. In 2016, he founded Vedic Management Center along with U Mahesh Prabhu.[3][4]

In 2015, he was honored by the President of India with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award granted by the Government of India for "distinguished service of a high order to the nation."

In 1991, under the auspices of the Hindu teacher Avadhuta Shastri, he was named Vamadeva Shastri after the Vedic Rishi Vamadeva. In 1996, he was conferred the title of Pandit along with the Brahmachari Vishwanathji Award in Mumbai, India.[8] He carries on the work of Kavyakantha Ganapati Muni, the chief disciple of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi.[9] He is aligned with the Indian Shaivite teacher Sadhguru Sivananda Murty.[10]

In 2014 Frawley received a Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana in Bangalore, India. In 2017 he received a second Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Faizabad, India.

In 1980, Frawley founded the Vedic Research Center, reestablished as the American Institute of Vedic Studies in 1988, which represents his work and teachings and which makes available online many resources to the public.[11]

Vamadeva Shastri has studied, written and taught extensively in the field of Ayurveda, starting with his work with Vasant Lad in 1983.[12] He works with multiple Ayurvedic institutions including: The Chopra Center University of Deepak Chopra (where he is a Master Educator);[13] Kerala Ayurveda Academy (where he is a primary advisor and teacher);[14] The California College of Ayurveda (which he advised Marc Halpern during its formation); The Kripalu school of Yoga and Ayurveda;[15] The National Ayurvedic Medical Association, (where he has been one of the four main advisors since its inception in 2000);[16] and the Association of Ayurveda Professionals of North America (AAPNA, where he is an advisor).[17] He also previously taught Chinese herbal medicine and western herbology.[18]

Frawley was closely connected to the noted Indian astrologer Dr. B.V. Raman (Bangalore Venkata Raman).[19] He was one of the first Americans to receive the title of "Jyotish Kovid" from the Indian Council of Astrological Sciences (ICAS) in 1993, followed by “Jyotish Vachaspati” in 1996. He was a founder and first president of the American Council of Vedic Astrology (ACVA) from 1993-2003.[20] He uses astrology in his books on ancient history, following Sri Yukteswar (Yukteswar Giri), emphasizing a current “Harmonization with the Galactic Center”, linking human events with cosmic time cycles.[21]

In his Vedic educational work, he is associated with the Swaminarayan movement (BAPS, Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha) and their many temples throughout the world.[22]

In books such as The Myth of the Aryan Invasion of India and In Search of the Cradle of Civilization, Frawley criticizes the 19th century racial interpretations of Indian prehistory, such as the theory of a conflict between invading caucasoid Aryans and Dravidians.[23] In the book In Search of the Cradle of Civilization (1995), Frawley along with Georg Feuerstein and Subhash Kak has rejected the Aryan Invasion Theory and supported the Indigenous Aryans theory.[24]

On 26 January 2015, the Indian Government honored Frawley with the Padma Bhushan award, one of the highest civilian awards,[25] which are rarely given to non-Indians working in Frawley's fields of expertise.[citation needed]

In 2015, the South Indian Education Society (SIES) in Mumbai, India, an affiliate of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, conferred upon him their special "National Eminence Award" as an “international expert in the fields of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Vedic Astrology.” Earlier award recipients include several prime ministers, presidents and spiritual leaders of India. Frawley received the award along with Suresh Prabhu, Union Railway Minister of India.[26]

In his book American Veda: How Indian Spirituality Changed the West, in the section "Passions for India," Philip Goldberg (2010) mentions David Frawley or Vamadeva Shastri as among three important teachers or acharyas of the Vedic tradition in the West today, along with Georg Feuerstein and Andrew Harvey.[27] In its “Meet the Innovators” section, the magazine Yoga Journal speaks of David Frawley as “one of the first Americans to bring Ayurvedic Medicine and Vedic Astrology to the West.”[28]

In the foreword to Frawley’s book Vedic Yoga: The Path of the Rishi, Swami Veda Bharati (2014) notes, "Every page of Vamadeva’s book is an example of what the Vedic Rishis have extolled as manisha or mantra-bearing inspirational wisdom.” [29] Swami Veda Bharati also contributed a chapter to the book agreeing with Frawley's views on the Vedic Yoga.[30]

Referring to his book Yoga and Ayurveda, Frawley is mentioned as one of the main Yoga teachers of Deepak Chopra and David Simon in their book, the Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga (2005).[31] Deepak Chopra (2015) states of Frawley/Vamadeva, relative to Frawley's book, Shiva, the Lord of Yoga, "Vamadeva Shastri has been a spiritual guide and mentor of mine for several decades. For anyone who is serious about the journey to higher divine consciousness, this book is yet another jewel from him."[32]

Rajiv Mehrotra (2003) of the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India, interviewed Frawley as one of twenty important spiritual teachers in his book The Mind of the Guru.[33] Frawley has been highlighted for calling Paramahansa Yogananda, “the father of Yoga in the West.” [34] The Hindu (2014) notes Frawley as a “Yoga and Vedanta expert.”[35]

Frawley’s Swami Vivekananda: The Maker of a New Era in Global Spirituality occurs in a Ramakrishna Mission book anthology in honor of the one hundred and fiftieth birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.[36] Prabuddha Bharata (2014), a publication of the Ramakrishna Order, states relative to Frawley’s book Mantra Yoga and Primal Sound, “The book is a revelation in terms of the astonishing width of literature that Frawley touches upon. Volumes can be written on each individual chapter.”[37]

Bryant (2001) commented that Frawley's historical work is more successful in the popular arena, to which it is directed and where its impact "is by no means insignificant", rather than in academic study[38] and that "(Frawley) is committed to channeling a symbolic spiritual paradigm through a critical empirico rational one".[39]

In 2002, Frawley in an article[40] in The Hindu newspaper drew on the then recent marine archeological discoveries at Gulf of Cambay of existence of submerged city dating from 7500 BC, to further suggest possibility of coastal origin for Vedic civilisation. Frawley further suggested in his article that it concurs with the texts of the Rig Veda includes close connections with ocean based on the repeated occurrence in the texts of the Sanskrit word samudra, meaning ocean. Following this, Michael Witzel wrote a response article in The Hindu rejecting Frawley, based on Witzel arguments that the Sanskrit work samudra means confluence of river and does not mean the traditional meaning of ocean, and hence writers of the Vedic civilization were from a place far from any oceans and not originally from India. Witzel suggests for the meaning of samudra as presented by him, that the roots of samudra as formed from "sam"(together) "+ udra". The "+udra" he refers to have the same origin as English water, Old Norse watn and Greek ὑδωρ (hudōr).[41] The debate between Frawley and Witzel continued with few more articles written by both to state their reasons to speculate that Vedic writers had roots from lands close to the oceans of India or far from ocean not from India, respectively.[42][43][44][45]

Bruce Lincoln (1999) attributes autochthonous ideas such as Frawley's to "parochial nationalism", terming them "exercises in scholarship ( = myth + footnotes)", where archaeological data spanning several millennia is selectively invoked, with no textual sources to control the inquiry, in support of the theorists' desired narrative.[46][full citation needed]

Graham Hancock (2002) quotes Frawley’s historical work extensively for the proposal of highly evolved ancient civilizations before our current estimate of history, including in India.[47] In addition, note Kreisburg (2012), for Frawley’s “The Vedic Literature and Its Many Secrets”.[48]

Dr. Wayne Dyer

Wayne Walter Dyer (May 10, 1940 – August 29, 2015) was an American philosopher,[citation needed] self-help author, and a motivational speaker. His first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), is one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 35 million copies sold to date.[1]

Dyer was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Melvin Lyle Dyer and Hazel Irene Vollick, and spent much of his first ten years in an orphanage on the east side of Detroit,[2] after his father walked out on the family, leaving his mother to raise three small boys.[3]His parents had moved from Ontario, Canada, and were members of Baptist Church.[4][5][6] After graduating from Denby High School, Dyer served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He received his Ed.D. degree in counseling from Wayne State University[7] for a dissertation titled Group Counseling Leadership Training in Counselor Education, under the supervision of Mildred Peters.[8]

Dyer, a Detroit native,[9] worked as a high school guidance counselor there and as a professor of counseling psychology at St. John's University in New York City.[2] He pursued an academic career, published in journals, and established a private therapy practice. His lectures at St. John's University, which focused on positive thinking and motivational speaking techniques, attracted many students. A literary agent persuaded Dyer to document his theories in his first book, called Your Erroneous Zones (1976). Dyer quit his teaching job and began a publicity tour of the United States, doggedly pursuing bookstore appearances and media interviews ("out of the back of his station wagon", according to Michael Korda, making the best-seller lists "before book publishers even noticed what was happening"[10]). After Your Erroneous Zones dozens more books followed, many of them also best-sellers.[9] Among them were Wishes Fulfilled, Excuses Begone and The Sky’s the Limit. The success of these books eventually led to national television talk show appearances including The Merv Griffin Show, The Tonight Show, and The Phil Donahue Show.[2]

Dyer proceeded to build on his success with lecture tours, a series of audiotapes, PBS programs, and regular publication of new books. Dyer's message resonated with many in the New Thought Movement and beyond. He often recounted anecdotes from his family life and repeatedly used his own life experience as an example. His self-made man success story was a part of his appeal.[2] Dyer told readers to pursue self actualization, calling reliance on the self a guide to "religious" experience, and suggested that readers emulate Jesus Christ, whom he termed both an example of a self-actualized person and a "preacher of self-reliance".[11] Dyer criticized societal focus on guilt, which he saw as an unhealthy immobilization in the present due to actions taken in the past. He encouraged readers to see how parents, institutions, and even they, themselves, had imposed guilt trips upon themselves.[12]

Although Dyer initially resisted the spiritual tag, by the 1990s he had altered his message to include more components of spirituality when he wrote the book Real Magic and discussed higher consciousness in the book Your Sacred Self.[2][13]

Wayne Dyer stated Nisargadatta Maharaj to be his Teacher and cited the quotation, "Love says: 'I am everything'. Wisdom says: 'I am nothing' from a compilation of talks on Shiva Advaita (Nondualism) philosophy I Am That. He was influenced by Abraham Maslow's concept of self-actualization and by the teachings of Swami Muktananda, whom he considered to be his Master.[14][15] In his book, Wishes Fulfilled; Mastering the Art of Manifesting, Dr. Dyer also credited Saint Francis of Assisi and the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu as foundational influences in his work.[16]
